Since the Time of the Transformers: The Ancient Heritage of the Nuu-Chah-Nulth, Ditidaht, and Makah (Pacific Rim Archaeology)
This book examines over 4000 years of culture history of the related Nuu-chah-nulth, Ditidaht, and Makah peoples on western Vancouver Island and the Olympic Peninsula. Using data from the Toquaht Archaeological Project, McMillan challenges current ethnographic interpretations that show little or no change in these peoples' culture. Instead, by combining historical evidence, recent archaeological data, and oral traditions he demonstrates conclusively that there were in fact extensive cultural changes and restructuring in these societies in the century following contact with Europeans.McMillan brings the reader up to modern times, identifying the major issues that face the Nuu-chah-nulth, Ditidaht, and Makah communities today. What does this mean for Buddhism Achievements impacting India?
For centuries Indian royalty and merchants patronized Buddhist monasteries and raised beautiful, hemispherical stone structures called stupas over the relics of the Buddha in reverence to his memory. Since the 1840s, archaeology has revealed the huge impact of Buddhist art, iconography, and architecture in India. The monastery complex at Nalanda in Bihar, in ruins in 1993, was a world center for Buddhist philosophy and religion until the thirteenth century. Im not sure i understand quite what you are asking. Buddhism has a long and beautiful history. Phosphorus | Read more Should I learn the language that will be most useful for my job, or the language that I love? I'm in high school and already speak English and I'm very good at Spanish. I've always wanted to learn either German or Russian (literally since the first time I heard the languages), and I'm considering starting to learn a language for my senior project next year. The problem is that I want to be an anthropologist/archaeologist, so learning Arabic would be most useful for my job. And because it's difficult to get a job in that field anyway, I feel that being able to speak the language will increase my chances. It's really hard for me to make a decision. I love German and Russian so much. In fact, I'd prefer to do Russian archaeology, but jobs in that field are so drastically limited that I decided to just do Middle Eastern and Northern Indian archaeology instead. I'd love to learn all three languages, but let's be honest here: learning just one of them would require huge amounts of work. They're known to be some of the most difficult widely-spoken languages to learn. Learning multiple of them would be nearly impossible. I should mention that it's been my dream to live in Germany since I was in elementary school. I'd also love to live in Russia. I think it's very rude to move to a foreign country and expect everybody to speak your native dialect, so I know I can't really move there unless I start learning the language. I'd happily live in Spain, but it wouldn't really be my dream. I live in the USA and will most likely be attending college in the UK. I personally think you should learn the language that you love & about your job, wouldn't you like it better to work with a language that you like? I'm pretty sure there be jobs available in every language you know. Every new language you know opens a new door. I was going to say learn all 3 but since you think you can't do it, there you go :) ~ | Read more Why do Mexicans think they own the American Southwest and Texas? I know that Mexicans are either Indian and/or mixed with both Indian and European blood and that they claim that the Aztecs came from North America, which actually archaeology kinda proves. Also, that The Southwest was first came under Spanish rule and then Mexican rule. That the Southwest was kinda stolen since it was sold only under pressured by the US who defeated Mexicans in the Mexican-American war. The selling of the land was really force and that under the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, the US promised to respect Mexicans currently living of what was to become the American Southwest. Under the treaty, Mexican land holdings would be respected and US citizenship was to be given to all Mexicans living in land during this treaty, but the US didn't follow through and took the land away and gave it to English speaking White settlers. So tell me should Mexicans claim to own the land of the Southwest and claim that they are living under American occupation of their land? Didn't they lose the war? Didn't the US give some of their land back? They have been indoctrinated into thinking that. If they want it back, they can try to take it... You Can't Block What You Don't Understand | Read more 2 Q's Christians, isn't this Demonic? and Atheist... Nothingness? Check this out Hinduism is unique among the world religions in that it has no founder or date of origin. While most major religions derive from new ideas taught by a charismatic leader, Hinduism is simply the religion of the people of India, which has gradually developed over four thousand years. The origins and authors of its sacred texts are largely unknown. Although today's Hinduism differs significantly from earlier forms of Indian religion, Hinduism's roots date back as far as 2000 BC, making it one of the oldest surviving religions. Because of its great age, the early history of Hinduism is unclear. The most ancient writings have yet to be deciphered, so for the earliest periods scholars must rely on educated guesses based on archaeology and the study of contemporary texts. Look at the Hindu Puranic literature and look how it relates to the Christian Godhead. "Lord Śiva said: My dear son, I, Lord Brahmā and the other demigods, who rotate within this universe under the misconception of our greatness, cannot exhibit any power to compete with the Supreme Personality of Godhead, for innumerable universes and their inhabitants come into existence and are annihilated by the simple direction of the Lord." (Bhagavata Purana 9.4.56) The "Misconception"....of our greatness They "Cannot"... "Compete"... with the "Supreme Personality of the Godhead" Ok that was the first part of the question and this is the second... I just saw this today when I was looking into the view of having Parallel Universes and was seeing people believe that everything is made up of energy.. and this is true.... But since energy is equal to mass, people come up with this idea that nothing in the Universe even exists... So therefore, this view of having a Parallel Universe vibrates within each other, causing a "fictional reality.... with dimensional matter and fictional matter". This is something that Peter Atkins tries to suggest in his debate against William Lane Craig and gets COMPLETELY Annihilated. He makes no sense in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w1Y6ev152BA&feature=related He says in this video... that the Universe is Nothing.... that is ridiculous. Then in this video William Lane Craig explains Atkins theory... right after 2:20 you see how ridiculous Peter Atkins logic is on this link. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AtO6tnJJ4Fs&feature=related So, my second question is, do you honestly believe that we don't even exist??? God Bless my friends :) John 1) 's funny how the people who crow the loudest about there being no such thing as God are the ones who most often try most desperately to play Him. 2) nothing is impossible. the pie-eyed piper | Read more |
